Ansel Adams was born on February 20, 1920 in San Fransisco, California. When he was four an aftershock of an earthquake that happened in 1906 threw him to the ground and he badly broke his nose, it scarred him for life. A year after this, his family went broke, and Charles Adams, his father, spent the rest of his life trying to get them back to wealth. Adams had no brothers or sisters, and was born when his mother was forty. He went to Harvard University, and after that he went to Yale. After he graduated he kept taking pictures and won many awards, a lot of photos he took were put on calendars, posters, books, and all over the internet. He won the Hasselblad Award in 1981, this award is given to photographers who are recognized for their great achievements. He had many quotes, one of them was "you don't take a photograph, you make it". Ansel Adams died on April 22, 1984 in Monterrey, California.
