1. On the internet, you can search up locations, and see if they are good enough to shoot.
2. One app you could download is Photographers Ephermeris.
3. The biggest problem, is that the foreground and the background seem to be very close together.
4. Shooting with a digital SLR, and using the software Lightroom 6 is another way instead of using HDR.
5. Three things that you could carry would be an umbrella, a raincoat, and a tarp.
6. Arriving 30 minutes before you want to shoot, allows you to know whether or not the landscape changed, or if you end up finding a better thing to shoot.
7. Subject is more important than composition when shooting landscape.
8. First decide which part of the scene is needed, then add other parts to see if they fit in, without taking the focus off the subject.
9. Black and white should be used when there is a heavy, cloudy sky. Also when there are fluffy
clouds in a blue sky.
10. The same scene looks much different in other seasons, weather, or lighting, so you can go back and see how it looks in winter versus summer, rain versus sunny, etc.

1. The girl in the middle is a too close to the girls on the right, that's one problem I could run into.
2. A great place to take this at Bowie would be either against the lockers.
3. I think a creative thing you could do is be looking at yourself in the photo, so look right and then look left, and then on the other side you look away from yourself, and in the middle you just look at the camera.
4. You could wear either different clothes or the same clothes, or something funny compared to serious. I think it would look the best wearing the same clothes like in the example.

1. The judges thought the pictures were not personal enough
2. Each picture is too similar
3. They said there is not enough strong singles
A good thing they said was the picture of the guy sweeping the road. A second good thing they said was they liked the picture of the girl falling over the hurdles and the picture only showing the legs of the opponent.
I thought this photographer was pretty good, they showed a lot of stories and made her message clear in each picture. I liked how she captured moments where the person's face was perfect.

3. They didn't like the word she had in some of his photos.
One of the judges liked the weirdness of the cotton candy photo. The judges enjoyed a sports photo of a man jumping for a baseball.
I did not enjoy looking at this photographer's photos, he didn't really ave a message or if he did it was hard to tell what it was supposed to be. What I didn't like, was that he took some photos where I had no idea what I was looking at, or what the min object was.

3.He cut off too much on a lot of photos
The judges liked his picture of the man jumping under the light, they also enjoyed how he had the picture of the girl and the birds.
I thought this photographer was fairly good, some of the photos had too much cut off, others were too tight. I did like how he always had a message I could read in his photos, I knew what the story was.

1. They didn't like the photo of the duck boat at all
2. They don't like how he cut off someones face in a photo, and he's doing it in more than one photo
3. They wished that in one of his pictures, the subjects were moving or doing something not just standing there
They liked how he got the picture of 3 girls jumping for the same ball, they really enjoyed that photo. A second thing they liked was how he got a photo and showed that it was in someone's backyard, and not an actual big deal.
This was my favorite photographer that I watched, he had good photos that all showed a good story, and he just had a lot of very well timed pictures. I thought that he shouldn't have cut off a couple things but other than that everything was great.
Winning Portfolio
A. The strengths the judges noted that he had good angles on some photos, in a picture they liked how everyone was doing something, they also noted how he was close to the subjects in some photos which was good.
B. The strengths I saw were tat the photographer was very creative and had great ideas for pictures. The only weakness I saw was how he photoshopped a couple pictures too much.
C. When the judges are deciding who to be the winner, they discuss with each other strengths and weaknesses of each portfolio, along with how many god photos versus how many bad photos. They also saw how many sports photos were taken compared to others, was it all sports, or was it half and half , or no sports.
Part 2-
A picture I agree with the judges on is a photo of a man with headgear, who looks muddy and dirty. The picture was put in black and white which makes it look a lot better, I really liked this picture and so did the judges.
A photo I do not agree with the judges on is a picture of girl in a little pool, a couple of the judges said it was good but I thought it was a bad picture. It had way too much stuff in the background and foreground, it was hard to tell what I was supposed to be looking at.

Final Exam plans
1. I plan to shoot this project either this weekend or next weekend.
2. It will start at my house but then move to the park.
3. I will be documenting both of my dog's time at the park, what they do and where they go.
4. To get this finished I will need a tripod, camera, and that is probably it.
5. My narration will be when I'm throwing a tennis ball with my dogs, talking about their behaviors and how often they go to the park, stuff like that. The still images will be placed in the end of the trip, getting in the car, walking back to the car, taking pictures of their messed up fur and tired faces. The video portion will be the beginning and the middle.

Final Preview Assignment
1. I learned from reading and watching videos that iMovie is a pretty simple thing to use. You can clip videos, trim them, and make them how you want. You also extend clips which is something I didn't know about.
A downside is that I read that optimizing the video can take hours or minutes. I've uploaded videos before and it always takes so long, one time it took 6 hours. I'm hoping the website meant a max of about 2 hours not anymore. A cool thing iMovie does, is that it adds transitions and titles to the theme I chose automatically.
2. I already knew that iMovie could trim clips because every video editing app has to do that.
3. I learned that iMovie adds transitions that correspond to the theme I chose.
4. I am very concerned over if I'm going to be able to film everything in one day, because it's supposed to be sort of a documentary over an event.
5. I am confident that I will be able to edit what I have fairly quickly.
6. If I was asked today I would probably record what my dog would do in a day, he has a decently eventful life so I think it would be fun.

Hard News Practice
Huntington Story-
A woman living in motor home was shot by her dog. Janice Jones had a gun on a chair in her motor home and her dog knocked it off, and it shot her.
Janice Jones is 53 and lives in Barstow, CA in a motor home parked on Beach Boulevard. Highway patrol officer Tammy Rye says "Jones was eating pork chops in the back of her home." This is when the event happened.
While she was eating, her dog knocked the handgun off the chair and it fired through her right leg and through the vehicle. "It could have been worse," Rye said, "the bullet missed the gas tank by two inches."
The gun that shot Jones was a 9mm and hit the ground when it discharged. "Her dog knocked her 9 mm handgun off a seat," Rye said.
She was taken to the Huntington Beach Hospital but later was moved to Irvine Medical Center. "Jones was shot around 10 p.m. Wednesday," Rye said.
The dog that accidentally shot her owner is a Pomeranian named Tombo, and was cared to by Huntington Beach Animal Control Officers. "The dog seemed to be malnourished," according to Janet Ngo, an animal control officer.
Earthquake Story-
San Francisco experienced a huge earthquake Monday morning. It struck at 8:12 a.m. and had 6 injuries and 2 deaths.
McHenry's Auto Supply 2342 Plum St. collapsed completely and was the reason for the six injuries and two fatalities. Jennifer Vu, a public information officer from the Hayward Fire department said "names of the dead are being withheld pending notifications of families."
A Hayward resident, Mike Beamer, lives directly across from the auto shop that collapsed. "I was eating my breakfast when the room started rolling. I dove under the table just as I heard an explosion outside and a chunk of cement flew through my kitchen window. That's when the screaming started across the street," Mike said.
While the auto shop was falling, Hayward firefighters used ropes to stabilize the building while they searched the building and found a gas leak that they then capped off. Before the building collapsed, the resident across the street felt off balance, "I felt a rolling motion that lasted for about 30 seconds," Mike said.
The earthquake had a magnitude of 6.4 on the Richter scale. Penny Gertz, a scientist from the U.S. Geological Survey in Menlo Park called the earthquake, " a strong one," and said "it occurred on the Hayward Fault, which runs under the hills."
Many officers and helpers showed up right away, while within 4 minutes others trickled in. "Twenty-one fire personnel, 12 police and 5 American Red Cross workers responded to the building collapse," Jennifer Vu said.
Three out of six people who got hurt from the earthquake were injured enough to go to the hospital, the other three were not. "No other serious injuries have been reported in Hayward," Vu said.

Story-
The Bowie administration has given the student of the month award to Giana Disantis today.
Giana is a sophomore with a 4.2 GPA, she works very hard to maintain her grades. "I tried my hardest, it took a lot of effort," Giana said.
She decided she want to try and win the award when her friends suggested it, she had a lot of support from them. "She has been my best friend since kindergarten, and I know she can be student of the month," her best friend Courtney said.
Giana also has support from many people including teachers. Alysha Mendez, her english teacher is one of Giana's favorite teachers. "She works so hard it only makes sense for her to be student of the month," Alysha said.
Giana did not start the month off very well, she had a 75 that she had to work very hard to get up to a 90. She is an only child and does not play any sports, but she participates in after school activities. A lot of the things that contributed to her being student of the month is how hard she worked, teachers were saying things about her almost wanting to make her student of the month themselves! Grades are a big factor in winning student of the month, with very good grades its obvious you work hard because maintaining a 4.2 GPA takes a lot of dedication and hard work.
Participation is a huge thing also, if you are in after school activities like Giana is then it helps your chances of winning. This isn't saying you must play a sport, you can join clubs and other things. Giana went to Bailey in middle school, and has never liked school. "It's tiring, boring, and most of all stressful," Giana said.
But giving herself a big goal like being student of the month is something that made school less boring and more tolerable for her. Although there were parts where she just wanted to say screw it and not try, her friends and parents support kept her going. She wasn't forced into doing this by her parents, but when she told them about it they were very pleased. "I always knew Giana was the smartest out of the family," her Dad said.
Giana was very happy that she had accomplished something big for the first time in her life. "College is a big thing on my mind, I can't wait to accomplish something 5 times bigger," Giana said.

Nut Graf
In journalism, the middle paragraph in a story or news article is called the Nut Graf. Every story has a beginning, middle, and an end. The Nut Graf is just another word for the middle with a slightly different meaning.
The beginning paragraph is the hook, it makes people want to keep reading, to see details about what is being said in the hook. That's what the Nut Graf is, it adds details to the intro and explains everything the reader is wanting to know. It has all the facts and details that are in the story, that was introduced through the hook.

Architecture Preview
Architects- Antoni Guadi and Josep Maria Jujol
Built In-1906-1912
Location- Barcelona, Spain
It is open to the public to come and visit.
It doesn't say how much it cost to build.
It was built for a married couple who were very wealthy.
I chose this building because I have never heard of it. I was interested to see what it looked like, and why someone decided to build it. Another reason is because Barcelona is a very pretty city, so I expected to see a very good or interesting building.
Architect- Piet Blom
Location- Rotterdam, Netherlands
Built In- 1974
People live in the houses so you can't go in, but people often look at them outside so the residents are disturbed a lot.
You can rent a house for $178 a night.
It was built for people to live in, not necessarily for tourists.
I chose these buildings because when I saw cube houses I knew I wanted to see what it was. Also I wanted to see if people lived in these houses or if they had just become tourist attractions. I'm glad I decided to look at this houses, because they sure are very interesting.
Architect- Santiago Calatrava
Built In- February 14, 2001
Location- Lilla Varsgatan, Sweden
It is only open to public in the summer, because it is a residential building.
There is no information on how much it cost to build.
It was built as a residential building for people to rent and live in.
I chose this building because it has an interesting name. It is also located in Sweden, and I don't know many things about Sweden, so I was interested. Another reason was because it seemed more interesting than the other options that were given.
Architect-Tom Wright
Built In- December, 1999
Location- United Arab Emirates
It is open to public, because it is a hotel
It costed $650 million to build
It was built for people stay in, because it is a hotel where people would go on vacation or something.
I chose this building because I know that Dubai is a very rich place. Therefore, I knew that this was going to be a very interesting looking building, and it is. I also knew how Dubai has some of the tallest buildings, so I was looking forward to seeing a very tall building.
Architect- Nicholas Grimshaw
Built In- 1998
Location- Bodelva, United Kingdom
It is open to the public
It costed 37.5 million euros to build
It was built as a tourist attraction, for people to come with their families and have a great day out.
I chose this building because I have actually heard about it. It is a very beautiful place, and has amazing looking buildings. It is for sure one of the coolest things I have ever seen, I really hope I get to go and visit this place one day.

Sensory Overload
1. I think this statement is probably the most true thing I have heard, I agree with this statement very much. This makes me feel like I can get a photo of something representing this statement.
2. Looking through these images, I did want to go and take pictures of the very colorful rooms.
3. I think being a child of someone who worked there would be fun, I would love to go to my parents shop and just look at all the stuff and how colorful everything is, and how big of shopping place it is.
4. My favorite photo is of all the colorful balls, it's very colorful and has things I like in it.

Dispatch Issue #4 Photography
On page 7, the photo looks very dramatic. It really demonstrates that being on varsity is a big deal. The darkness makes it look like a serious photo, and a big deal, I think this is a very good photo.
1. I see a rule of balance in this photo, I also see fill the frame.
2. The main subjects are the 4 varsity players.
3. I would say the photo could be lighter, but then it wouldn't look as dramatic.
4. I see a deep depth of field.
The next photo on page 7 is of coach Hempel, one of the football coaches. The coach looks very serious, and like he means business. This was great timing to get the look off of him.
1. I see balance in the photo because of the football player on each side of him.
2. The main subject is Coach Hempel.
3. I think the exposure is good.
4. I see shallow depth of field.
Another photo was of a varsity football player talking with an NFL player. This photo captures the NFL player giving advice to Kyle. I think this photo should have beter lighting, it's too dark.
1. I see balance in the photo, fill the frame.
2. The main subjects are Kyle Carter, and NFL player Michael Griffin.
3. The photo is too dark.
4. I see a deep depth of field.
Page 16-
The first photo I see is of a theatre rehearsal. There is a lot of mergers, it is very hard to see the main subject. I do not think this is a very good photo.
1. I don't see any rules of composition.
2. The main subjects is a group of actresses.
3. The photo is a little too dark.
4. I see shallow depth of field.
The next photo is of a teacher teaching students theatre lessons. This photo captures the teacher explaining something to the class. I like how the lighting is good and it looks very live.
1. I see rule of thirds.
2. The main subject is Cortney Hall, the teacher.
3. The photo has good exposure.
4. I see shallow depth of field.
The last photo is of Courtney Hall having her students to an activity. This photo gets how interactive the students are and how much the teacher is getting into it. It is hard to see what is going on and who is the teacher.
1. I don't see rules of composition.
2. The main subject is Cortney Hall, the teacher.
3. The photo has good exposure.
4. I see shallow depth of field.
My favorite photo is of Kyle Carter on page 6.
This is my favorite because it shows how hard he's working and captures the NFL player giving him advice, it also has good exposure.
The most evident rules of composition in the newspaper was either rule of thirds or balance, it was even.
My least favorite photo is of the actresses rehearsing on page 12.
This is my least favorite because I don't know what I'm supposed to be looking at, the exposure isn't very good and there are a lot of mergers.
If I were a photographer I would like to a football game event, to me it would be the most interesting, and really good photos could come out of it.
Overall I would rate the photos in this issue pretty well. Almost all of them had good exposure and were following at least 2 rules of composition. The weakest part if the page about theatre, page 12, the pictures were not as good as the others.

Dispatch Issue #4 Writing
Story #1
Construction on MoPac is said to be finished in about 3 years, I will be preparing to graduate. The goal of the project is to extend the MoPac main lanes, improve intersections, and improve bike lanes along with crosswalks. Close to Bowie there have been several trees cut down, and people are saying it looks horrible, I agree.
Who- TxDot, construction workers, government.
What- Improvements being made to MoPac, one of the biggest highways in the state.
When- It is going to end in 2021
Where- Construction is happening on MoPac near Bowie, intersecting Slaughter Ln.
Why- To improve intersections, main lanes, and bike lans.
How- Construction workers are breaking down cement and trees to make more room for lanes and better intersections, along with bike lanes and crosswalks.
Who was quoted in the story- "Everyone's already going slower, the lanes are tiny, and the entirety of the process is extremely time consuming" - Emily Lawson.
The quote above is the strongest quote in the story in my opinion, because it's the one everyone relates to the best.
The leading sentence make me want to keep reading so I could find out what was happening.
Story #2
This story is about Bowie Mountain Biking, Austin Buttlar, is the featured biker in the story. He is on the varsity biking team as a junior, that is impressive. As an upperclassman, he likes to see the younger boys bike, to see which ones are good or bad.
Who- Austin Buttlar
What- A junior on the varsity biking team explains what it's like to be on the team.
When- Friday, Febuary 9.
Where- Bowie
Why- to explain to other bowie students what the mountain biking team is all about.
How- Austin has practice 6 out of 7 days of the week, that is how he trains and gets better.
Who was quoted in the story- Austin Buttlar was quoted in the story.
Strongest Quote- "When I'm biking, it gives me the opportunity to take my mind off things and focus on the trail and the nature around" this quote appeared in the middle, not a part of the story.
The lead sentence made me want to keep reading, because it was a good hook.
Story #3
Whataburger has hired an officer due tot he chaos after football games. This is probably a good decision, there are so many high schoolers that go there after the games. After a fight between a customer and student, this was a good call from whataburger.
Who- Students and WhataBurger workers
What- The resturant has hired a knew officer
When- There is no date saying when the officer was hired
Where-Whataburger
Why- The officer was hired to ensure the students and customers safety
How- They hired the security officer
Who was quoted i n the story- Levi Ander says "That guy is super chill, he's awesome."
Strongest Quote- "He helped me jump my friends car after a game at like 12:30 in the morning."
The lead sentence made me want to keep reading because I wanted to know why the officer was hired.
