Story-
The Bowie administration has given the student of the month award to Giana Disantis today.
Giana is a sophomore with a 4.2 GPA, she works very hard to maintain her grades. "I tried my hardest, it took a lot of effort," Giana said.
She decided she want to try and win the award when her friends suggested it, she had a lot of support from them. "She has been my best friend since kindergarten, and I know she can be student of the month," her best friend Courtney said.
Giana also has support from many people including teachers. Alysha Mendez, her english teacher is one of Giana's favorite teachers. "She works so hard it only makes sense for her to be student of the month," Alysha said.
Giana did not start the month off very well, she had a 75 that she had to work very hard to get up to a 90. She is an only child and does not play any sports, but she participates in after school activities. A lot of the things that contributed to her being student of the month is how hard she worked, teachers were saying things about her almost wanting to make her student of the month themselves! Grades are a big factor in winning student of the month, with very good grades its obvious you work hard because maintaining a 4.2 GPA takes a lot of dedication and hard work.
Participation is a huge thing also, if you are in after school activities like Giana is then it helps your chances of winning. This isn't saying you must play a sport, you can join clubs and other things. Giana went to Bailey in middle school, and has never liked school. "It's tiring, boring, and most of all stressful," Giana said.
But giving herself a big goal like being student of the month is something that made school less boring and more tolerable for her. Although there were parts where she just wanted to say screw it and not try, her friends and parents support kept her going. She wasn't forced into doing this by her parents, but when she told them about it they were very pleased. "I always knew Giana was the smartest out of the family," her Dad said.
Giana was very happy that she had accomplished something big for the first time in her life. "College is a big thing on my mind, I can't wait to accomplish something 5 times bigger," Giana said.
