Self-Portrait vs Selfie

There is a big difference between a self portrait and a selfie. A selfie is a casual photo you would take anywhere, a self portrait can be formal, informal, or environmental. This means that you can't be just anywhere or wearing whatever.
An environmental self portrait is one where you are in an environment that defines you, or describes you. In this case you can't be wearing just anything because it has to be what you would wear if it was the real event or location. A formal portrait is the most different from a selfie, this is where you dress up fancy and have a proper photo, like if it was a family portrait where you are all dressed up. An informal portrait is the closest to a selfie but still different, you still need to use rules of composition. You wouldn't be dressed like a formal portrait or anything fancy, but the photo should be casual and can show the personality of the object.
In conclusion, a selfie is much more casual and not important, where as a self-portrait is a real photo where you try to make it look good. A selfie is just snapshot, while a self-portrait is much more than a quick picture. I like how this article explains well the difference between the two types of pictures. In my opinion, I prefer self portraits because they look better, and have value unlike a selfie.
I couldn't find a selfie and the one I found would only let me save the link
